OSM Awards 2018

This year, we are again presenting the OpenStreetMap Awards! Nine nominees will receive an award in nine categories at the State of the Map 2018 conference. This is a community award: you decide who the nominees are, before you vote for them.

Call For Nominees: Suggest a person, a group or an organization for an award. We only ask for three pieces of information: a name, a project (what did they do to claim an award), and optionally an URL for any web page that describes the project. Eligible is everything that was announced after 2017-07-01. The call for nominees ends on the 31th of May.

Ralph Aytoun
I'd like to nominate Ralph who is a legendary OSM contributor. Ralph has mapped in 93 countries, mapping extensively in his local area as well as contributing to Humanitarian tasks mainly through validation. Ralph also trains new validators at regular mapathons in the UK to grow the validation community, and travels all over the UK to support new mapathon leaders get set up. He also gives a lot of free time to support community building activities e.g. microgrants. Thanks Ralph!

Russell Deffner
For leading the Humanitarian OSM Activation Working Group. Russ led the response to Hurricane Maria mapping in Puerto Rico, supported 5 other disaster activations, and coordinated 5000 mappers to join the efforts to support vulnerable communities through mapping in OSM. Russ gives a huge amount of his personal time to grow OSM to support communities vulnerable to or affected by disasters worldwide, and really deserves this recognition.

theFive
For years, TheFive has been developing the content management system OSMBC, the weeklyOSM, without it would not be possible to publish the weeklyOSM in seven languages almost simultaneously. Recently he has created a guest account so that anyone with an OSM account can write a contribution for the community.
